Kazakh Athlete Shatters Record, Claims Gold at Asian Championships

Kazakhstan's young athletic talent, Maxim Sazhnev, has achieved a remarkable feat at the Asian Championships in Hong Kong, securing a gold medal in the discus throw for the under-20 category. The 17-year-old athlete not only claimed the top spot but also set a new personal best and a national record.

Dominating Performance

In the final competition, Sazhnev delivered a powerful performance, throwing the discus an impressive 60.45 meters. This result comfortably placed him in first position, marking a significant milestone in his burgeoning career. His consistent improvement throughout the event was evident, as he progressively extended his throws from 45.67 meters to his final record-breaking distance.

New National Record

This victory not only brings the first gold medal for the Kazakhstan team at the tournament but also establishes a new national record for athletes under 20. Sazhnev's previous record stood at 57.97 meters, set in April 2026. With his latest achievement, he is expected to be ranked among the top ten junior athletes globally.

The Asian Championships are taking place from May 28th to 31st.
