Kazakhstan Halts Window Tint Test Requirement Until 2027

Kazakhstan has temporarily suspended a key requirement for vehicle technical inspections, easing the burden on car owners. The mandatory use of specialized devices to measure the light transmission of car windows has been put on hold.

Temporary Relief for Drivers

Effective immediately, technical inspection operators will not be required to use specific equipment to check window light transmission. This change is in effect until the beginning of 2027. Previously, all inspection stations were obligated to have these devices to ensure compliance with light transmission standards.

Regulatory Update

This adjustment stems from an order issued by the Acting Minister of Transport on May 4, 2026. The specific provisions related to window tint testing, detailed in paragraph 12 of Annex 1 and line 14 of Annex 2 of Ministry Order No. 152 dated May 16, 2025, are temporarily suspended. This means the requirement for window tint testing devices will not be enforced until January 1, 2027.

Impact on Vehicle Owners

The suspension of this particular inspection requirement is expected to provide a welcome relief for vehicle owners across Kazakhstan, simplifying the process of passing their mandatory technical inspections for the next few years.
