Kazakhstan Launches Electronic Health Passports for All Citizens
Kazakhstan is set to introduce electronic health passports for all citizens as part of a major push to digitize the nation's healthcare sector. This new system aims to create a unified platform for storing each patient's complete medical history, making it more accessible and efficient.
Unified Healthcare Data
The initiative is part of a broader effort to integrate state information systems under the unified e-Densaulyq architecture. The primary goal is to transition from various disparate digital solutions to a single system where data is entered once and becomes available to all healthcare providers without redundant input.
Currently, seven key digital components are being consolidated. By the end of the year, several new features are expected to go live, including the individual electronic health passports.
What the Electronic Passport Means
A central element of this new architecture will be a unified repository for medical data, which already includes over 12 medical information systems. This will form the basis for each patient's electronic health passport, containing a comprehensive record of all medical assistance received, regardless of the patient's location or the medical facility.
For doctors, this means streamlined access to patient histories, enabling more informed diagnoses and treatment plans. Patients, in turn, can expect reduced waiting times for services and an overall improvement in the quality of medical care received.
Advancements in Emergency and Rural Healthcare
Beyond the electronic passport, Kazakhstan is implementing other digital projects to enhance the safety of medical professionals and improve healthcare accessibility. These include the introduction of video badges and artificial intelligence in emergency services.
Significant attention is also being paid to developing medical services for rural areas. As of now, the construction of 655 primary healthcare facilities has been completed across the country, a key part of a national project aimed at boosting healthcare accessibility, developing infrastructure, and strengthening the sector's human resources.
Digitalization as a Priority
The digitalization of healthcare is considered a crucial tool for enhancing the quality of medical services in Kazakhstan. The new system is expected to improve efficiency, reduce errors, and provide better data for public health analysis. Developing digital services, particularly for rural and remote settlements, remains a key strategic direction.
Following a recent council meeting, Aida Balayeva, a government official, emphasized the need to continue developing the digital healthcare infrastructure and ensure the timely implementation of national project measures. She also highlighted the importance of strengthening personnel oversight at the deputy akim (governor) level.
This comprehensive approach to healthcare modernization underscores Kazakhstan's commitment to leveraging technology for better health outcomes for all its citizens.
