Kazakhstan sets 2026 start for online passport renewal to cut queues at centers
Kazakhstan will let citizens renew passports online starting in 2026, a shift officials say will shorten processing times and ease lines at Public Service Centers (PSCs).
This was reported by the Infohub.kz news agency.
When it goes live
First Vice Minister of the Ministry of Artificial Intelligence and Digital Development Rostislav Konyashkin said at a government briefing on January 6, 2026, that the service is slated to launch this year. While an exact date was not given, the ministry plans to make it available within 2026.
What will be online — and what won’t
The initial rollout will cover reissuing an existing passport online. Konyashkin noted that Kazakhstan already enabled online reissue of national ID cards in 2025, and the same mechanism is now being extended to international passports.
First-time passport applications will remain offline for now due to the need to capture and verify live biometrics such as photos and signatures for security.
Security and user choice
Authorities plan a phased introduction to ensure stable performance and data protection. Even after the online option becomes available, people who prefer in-person assistance can continue to apply at PSCs.
Where to apply
Applications will be accepted through the eGov Mobile app and the eGov portal, according to the ministry.
Part of a broader digital push
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Artificial Intelligence and Digital Development Jaslan Madiev has previously said PSCs will gradually evolve into “digital offices” to speed up service and improve user experience. The ministry also aims to fully digitize services related to driver’s licenses.
