Kazakhstan Weather Alert: Snowstorms in North, Rain in South on Feb 21

Kazakhstan is set to experience a dramatic shift in weather on February 21, as different regions face contrasting conditions. Forecasters are warning of blizzards and frost in the northern parts of the country, while the south can expect rain and unseasonably warm temperatures.

Northern Regions: Snow, Blizzards, and Frost

Winter's grip remains strong in the northern and central areas of Kazakhstan. Cities like Petropavlovsk, Kokshetau, Karaganda, and the capital Astana will see snowfall, blizzards, and strong winds. Daytime temperatures are predicted to range from -4 to -15 degrees Celsius, with nighttime temperatures potentially dropping to -20 degrees Celsius in some locations.

Kostanay is also anticipating snow and blizzards, particularly during the morning and night. Aktobe will face similar conditions, with precipitation possible throughout the day. Meanwhile, Pavlodar is expected to be dry but very cold, with nighttime temperatures possibly reaching -25 degrees Celsius. Although no precipitation is forecast for Oskemen and Semey, fog may form in the early morning and at night.

Western Kazakhstan: Snow, Ice, and Fog

The western regions of Kazakhstan will experience variable weather. Oral can expect snow, reduced blizzard conditions, and icy roads, along with fog in the morning and at night. Winds are expected to strengthen during the day.

Atyrau will likely see little precipitation, but morning fog is possible. While daytime temperatures could reach +3 to +5 degrees Celsius, a slight frost is expected again at night. Aktau is set to be one of the warmest cities during the day, with no precipitation and temperatures climbing up to +11 degrees Celsius.

Southern Kazakhstan: Rain and Spring Warmth

The southern regions will feel the first hints of spring. Taraz is forecast to have precipitation, mainly in the form of rain, during the night and morning, with some areas experiencing fog and wind. Temperatures will remain around +8 to +10 degrees Celsius.

Shymkent is also expecting precipitation, with heavy rain possible overnight. Turkistan may see similar conditions, with rain potentially turning into snow. In Kyzylorda, rain is expected at night, possibly leading to icy roads and fog. Daytime temperatures will hover around +3 degrees Celsius, dropping to near zero at night.

Southeast: Rain and Wind

In the cities of Konav, Taldykorgan, and Almaty, forecasters predict rain and gusty winds. Almaty will experience daytime rain, light fog, and temperatures rising to +9 degrees Celsius, with nighttime temperatures between +3 and +5 degrees Celsius. Taldykorgan will see rain in the morning and afternoon, with temperatures dropping to -7 degrees Celsius at night. Konav will also have rain and wind, with daytime temperatures reaching up to +9 degrees Celsius.

Contrasting Weather and Road Safety

On February 21, Kazakhstan will be influenced by multiple weather scenarios, from northern blizzards to southern rain and warmth. Meteorologists urge drivers to exercise caution due to icy conditions, fog, and strong winds, and advise pedestrians to be aware of the sharp temperature changes.

This contrasting weather serves as a reminder of Kazakhstan's unpredictable climate. It is advisable to check local forecasts before heading out and be prepared for any surprises.
