Kazakhstan's national weather service, Kazhydromet, has released its forecast for the upcoming three days, March 14th to 16th, revealing distinctly different weather patterns for the country's two largest cities, Astana and Almaty.

Astana Braces for Snow and Cold

The capital city, Astana, is expected to experience a return to winter conditions. On March 14th, residents can anticipate variable cloudiness with snow expected overnight, accompanied by icy roads. Winds will be south-westerly, ranging from 3-8 m/s at night to 7-12 m/s during the day. Temperatures will hover between -2 to -4 degrees Celsius overnight and 0 to +2 degrees Celsius during the day.

The forecast for March 15th indicates continued variable cloudiness, with snow, blizzards, and icy conditions predicted overnight. Daytime will bring precipitation in the form of rain and snow, along with icy roads and occasional fog. The north-westerly wind is set to strengthen, reaching 9-14 m/s. Overnight temperatures will drop slightly to -3 to -5 degrees Celsius, while daytime temperatures remain around 0 to +2 degrees Celsius.

By March 16th, the weather in Astana is forecast to be mostly dry with variable cloudiness. Fog may occur occasionally. Winds will shift to the south-east and east, blowing at 7-12 m/s. Overnight temperatures are expected to be colder, ranging from -5 to -7 degrees Celsius, with daytime temperatures rising to +2 to +4 degrees Celsius.

Almaty to Enjoy Spring Warmth

In contrast, Almaty is set to experience milder, spring-like weather. On March 14th, the city will see variable cloudiness with no precipitation. Fog is expected during the night and early morning hours. South-westerly winds will be light, at 3-8 m/s. Daytime temperatures are predicted to reach a pleasant +4 to +6 degrees Celsius, with overnight lows between -5 to -7 degrees Celsius.

The mild weather is expected to continue on March 15th, with variable cloudiness and no significant precipitation. Fog may persist overnight and in the early morning. Light south-westerly winds of 3-8 m/s will prevail. Temperatures will see a slight increase, with overnight lows of -4 to -6 degrees Celsius and daytime highs of +5 to +7 degrees Celsius.

For March 16th, Almaty will continue to enjoy variable cloudiness and dry conditions, though fog might appear overnight. Winds will be from the west at 3-8 m/s. Overnight temperatures will be between -3 to -5 degrees Celsius, and daytime temperatures are expected to remain steady at +5 to +7 degrees Celsius.

Widespread Warmth Across Kazakhstan

These contrasting forecasts for the major cities come as meteorologists previously announced that a high-pressure system would bring warm, dry weather to most of Kazakhstan over the next three days. Exceptions are expected in the northern and eastern regions, where atmospheric fronts may bring precipitation, icy conditions, and stronger winds.
