A promising young talent, Sayat Ilyasov, has celebrated his first victory representing Kazakhstan, marking a significant milestone since his relocation from Uzbekistan.

The 20-year-old athlete, who now competes for the Mangystau region, clinched the gold medal at the Bolat Temirov Memorial International Tournament held in Atyrau. This triumph signifies his inaugural major win under the Kazakh flag.

Debut Win in Atyrau

In the final bout of the 65 kg weight category, Ilyasov faced Asylkhan Kosherbay from the Zhambyl region. His victory over Kosherbay secured him the top spot, highlighting his potential as a key player for the national team.

A New Chapter in Boxing Career

Originally from Uzbekistan, Sayat Ilyasov is an ethnic Kazakh who previously represented the Uzbek youth national team. His impressive record includes a championship title at the Asian Championships and participation in the World Championships.

In early 2026, Ilyasov made the decision to switch his sporting citizenship and join the Kazakhstan national boxing team, embarking on a new phase of his career.

About the Tournament

The Bolat Temirov Memorial Tournament, dedicated to the memory of the International Master of Sports, took place from April 21st to 25th. The event attracted approximately 250 young boxers from Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, and Belarus, showcasing emerging talent from across the region.
