Kazakhstan's Population Surpasses 20.5 Million as of April 1

Kazakhstan's population has officially crossed the 20.5 million mark, according to the latest figures released by the Bureau of National Statistics. As of April 1, 2026, the country's total population stands at 20,547,909 individuals.

Population Growth in Early 2026

Since the beginning of 2026, Kazakhstan has seen a notable increase in its population, adding 48,087 people to its total count. This growth is largely influenced by demographic shifts in key regions.

Regional Dynamics

While the overall national population is on the rise, regional trends show variation. The Turkestan region, despite having a substantial population of 2,146,665, has experienced a decrease of 2,540 people since the year began. In contrast, Almaty city has seen significant growth, with its population reaching 2,359,052, an increase of 10,949 residents.

Urban vs. Rural Trends

The data also highlights a divergence between urban and rural population changes. As of April 1, urban areas are home to 13,137,950 Kazakhstanis, marking an increase of 52,840 people. Conversely, rural areas have seen a slight decrease, with 7,409,959 residents, down by 4,753 people.
