Kazakhstan has officially voiced its concerns regarding the escalating conflict in the Middle East. Foreign Minister Yerlan Koshanov held a crucial phone conversation with his counterpart from the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, to discuss the volatile situation.

Regional Tensions and Kazakhstan's Position

During the call, Minister Koshanov expressed Kazakhstan's deep concern over the recent attacks in the region, including those impacting the UAE. He firmly stated that Kazakhstan opposes the involvement of neutral countries in military actions. Furthermore, he underscored the nation's commitment to upholding the sovereignty and territorial integrity of all states in the region, emphasizing that violations will not be tolerated.

Call for Diplomatic Resolution

The discussion highlighted the urgent need to de-escalate the current situation and transition towards a political and diplomatic resolution, grounded in the principles of international law. "The necessity of urgently de-escalating the current situation and moving towards resolving the crisis through political and diplomatic means, based on the principles of international law, was emphasized," stated a release from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Minister Koshanov also acknowledged the UAE as a significant partner for Kazakhstan and extended his gratitude for the assistance provided in evacuating Kazakh citizens.

Background of the Conflict

The current military escalation in the Middle East began on February 28th. This marked the initial aerial strikes by the United States and Israel on Iranian territory. In response, Tehran reportedly initiated attacks using missiles and drones targeting Israel and countries in the Persian Gulf.
