Kostanay Region Sees Peak Mortality in December 2025
The Kostanay region of Kazakhstan experienced a notable seasonal pattern in its mortality rates throughout 2025, with the year concluding with the highest number of deaths recorded in December.
Seasonal Mortality Trends
Data from the Bureau of Statistics indicates a clear trend: while the beginning of the year, specifically March, saw the lowest mortality figures with approximately 600 deaths, the rate climbed significantly towards the year's end. December 2025 registered a peak of 807 deaths, marking the highest point for the year.
Throughout 2025, monthly death counts fluctuated between 600 and 742 individuals. However, a consistent increase began in October, culminating in the December high.
Kostanay City: A Hub of Mortality
The regional capital, Kostanay city, accounts for a substantial portion of the overall mortality figures. In December alone, 240 deaths were recorded in the city, representing between 25% and 30% of the region's total for that month.
Other cities within the region show varying patterns. Rudny, for instance, recorded between 95 and 150 monthly deaths. In contrast, Lisakovsk and Arkalyk reported considerably lower and more stable mortality rates.
Early 2026 Figures
Looking into the beginning of 2026, January saw 596 deaths in the region. This figure is lower than the mortality rates observed in most months of the preceding year, suggesting a return to lower levels after the December peak.
