Kyrgyzstan Considers Driver's License Suspension for Road Rage Incidents

Kyrgyzstan is considering a new law that would impose stricter penalties on drivers exhibiting aggressive behavior on the roads. The proposed legislation aims to curb road rage incidents and promote safer driving practices by introducing fines and the possibility of license suspension.

Penalties for Road Conflicts

Under the new draft law, drivers involved in fights or conflicts on the roadway could face a fine of 10,000 Kyrgyzstani soms (approximately 57,000 tenge). These actions are recognized as posing a threat to road safety.

The penalties become more severe for repeat offenses. If a driver commits this violation again within a one-year period, they could have their driver's license suspended for six months.

Objectives of the Legislation

Proponents of the bill state that road conflicts have become more frequent in Kyrgyzstan in recent years, often escalating to physical altercations. Such incidents endanger not only the participants but also other drivers and pedestrians.

According to available data, over 90 percent of road traffic accidents are caused by driver error, and the accident rate remains one of the highest in the region. This legislation seeks to reduce on-road conflicts, improve driver discipline, and foster a culture of safe driving.
