Mukur Pass in Zhetysu Region Temporarily Closed for Road Repairs
Traffic movement through the Mukur mountain pass in the Zhetysu Region has been temporarily restricted due to ongoing repair works. This measure affects a key section of the Almaty-Oskemen highway, prompting authorities to establish alternative routes for drivers.
Road Closure Details
According to the regional police department, temporary changes have been implemented on kilometers 213-234 of the Almaty-Oskemen highway. While traffic heading towards Almaty will continue on its usual path, vehicles traveling from Taldykorgan to Almaty are being directed to use a 27-kilometer detour via the settlement of Mukur.
Driver Advisory
Police are urging all drivers to adhere to the temporarily altered routes, observe speed limits, and pay close attention to road signs to ensure safety during the construction period.
Extensive Renovation Project
The regional administration has announced that the highway renovation project is extensive, covering various sections from the Almaty region border to the Taldykorgan airport. The complete overhaul of all project phases is scheduled for completion by 2027. The specific section between kilometers 213-234 will undergo a complete replacement of its road structure.
Scope of Work
Current construction activities include leveling the roadbed, pouring monolithic drainage channels, and installing protective fencing to prevent livestock from entering the roadway. Additionally, measures are being taken to construct animal crossings, repair and install culverts, and refurbish the bridge over the Mukur River. The project involves two shifts of approximately 300 workers and 230 units of equipment. The opening of the four-lane road's lower layer is anticipated for September-October.
