Nicholas Cage's Spider-Man Noir Series Premieres This Spring

The first trailer for the highly anticipated Spider-Man Noir series, starring Academy Award winner Nicolas Cage, has officially dropped, offering a glimpse into the dark, atmospheric world of the iconic Marvel character. The series is set to premiere this spring, bringing a fresh, gritty interpretation of the web-slinger to screens.

Premiere Details and Release Schedule

According to reports from Variety and Deadline, the series is slated for a U.S. debut on the MGM+ channel on May 25th. Following its initial broadcast, all episodes will become available globally on the Prime Video platform starting May 27th. Viewers will be able to binge the entire season in one go, as all episodes are scheduled for release simultaneously.

What is Spider-Man Noir?

Spider-Man Noir is based on the Marvel comic book character of the same name, known for his distinct black-and-white aesthetic and 1930s setting. While this new series is not directly connected to the animated Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse franchise, Cage previously lent his voice to a Spider-Man character in that film. The new live-action series draws inspiration from the original Marvel comic book origins.

A Detective's Dark Past

The narrative unfolds in 1930s New York City, centering on Ben Reilly, a private detective grappling with personal demons. Once the city's sole superhero, known as "The Spider," a profound personal tragedy led him to abandon his masked persona. However, his past is catching up to him, and a mysterious case compels him to don the mask once more.

The trailer showcases Cage's character embodying the classic noir archetype: world-weary, ironic, and somewhat broken. His adventures include leaping from vehicles, engaging in bar brawls, swinging between buildings, and, as hinted in the visuals, frequently turning to alcohol. The creators emphasize that this is a story about a man wrestling with his past and his identity.

Innovative Dual-Color Format

A unique feature of the series is its presentation. The creators have opted to release each episode in two distinct versions: "Authentic Black & White" and "True-Hue Full Color." This allows viewers to choose their preferred viewing experience, with both formats launching simultaneously.

Star Power and Production Team

Beyond Nicolas Cage, the series features a notable cast including Abraham Popoola, Jack Huston, and Brendan Gleeson. Additional cast members include Lucas Haas, Cameron Britton, and Michael Kostroff. Sony Pictures Television is producing the series exclusively for MGM+ and Prime Video. Harry Bradbeer, known for his work on Fleabag and Killing Eve, directed the first two episodes and serves as an executive producer. Oren Uziel and Steve Lightfoot are the showrunners.

The acclaimed producers behind the animated Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, Phil Lord, Christopher Miller, and Amy Pascal, are also involved in the development of this project as executive producers.

About Nicolas Cage

Nicolas Cage is an American actor and an Academy Award winner for his role in Leaving Las Vegas. His extensive filmography includes acclaimed performances in The Rock, Face/Off, Con Air, National Treasure, and Ghost Rider. The actor celebrated his 61st birthday in January.

It's worth recalling that in July 2017, Nicolas Cage visited Astana for the opening of the XII "Eurasia" International Film Festival. During his visit, a now-famous photo of him wearing a traditional Kazakh robe was taken, which later went viral on social media and became an internet meme.
