Russian billionaire Mikhail Smirnov has died following a road accident in the Priozersky district of the Leningrad region. The news was confirmed by the Baltic Fuel Company (BFC), where Smirnov served as the chairman of the board of directors.

Details of the Accident

The fatal incident occurred on May 20th on the 49th kilometer of the Peski – Sosnovo – Podgorye highway. Police are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash.

According to official reports, a 1972-born individual driving a Triumph motorcycle lost control, veered into oncoming traffic, and collided with a Haval car. The motorcycle driver was pronounced dead at the scene before emergency services could provide further aid.

Smirnov was just one month shy of his 54th birthday. He was a significant figure in the business world, holding a 50% stake in 'Neva Oil' LLC, a subsidiary of BFC. This company specializes in the export of petroleum products and the bunkering of vessels.

The publication 'Delovoy Peterburg' identified 'Neva Oil' as the entrepreneur's primary asset. In 2024, Smirnov was ranked 108th on a list of Russian billionaires, with his net worth estimated at 7.79 billion rubles. His business interests extended to a total of 26 companies.
