Rybakina stays No.5 in Jan 5 WTA rankings before Brisbane; Anisimova rises to No.3
Elena Rybakina will start her 2026 campaign in Brisbane still firmly in the world’s Top 5, as the WTA’s January 5 rankings kept Kazakhstan’s No.1 at No.5 — a timely boost before her season opener.
This was reported by the Infohub.kz news agency.
Jan 5 WTA ranking moves
The January 5, 2026 update brought a notable shuffle near the top: Amanda Anisimova climbed to No.3 while Coco Gauff slipped to No.4. Aryna Sabalenka remains world No.1, followed by Iga Swiatek at No.2.
The Top 10 now features Sabalenka (1), Swiatek (2), Anisimova (3), Gauff (4), Rybakina (5), Jessica Pegula (6), Madison Keys (7), Jasmine Paolini (8), Mirra Andreeva (9) and Ekaterina Alexandrova (10).
Kazakh players on the rise
In doubles, Kazakhstan’s Anna Danilina moved up to No.14, underlining a strong start to the year. Rising talent Aruzhan Sagandykova also surged 28 places after winning an ITF doubles title in Ahmedabad, India.
Brisbane opener set
Rybakina begins her season in Brisbane, where she is slated to face China’s Zhang Shuai in the round of 32. The Kazakh star closed last season by winning the WTA year-end finals, a result that propelled her back into the Top 5 and adds momentum to her Australian swing.
