The legal proceedings surrounding the death of Saltyan Nukenova are entering a new phase, as a higher court prepares to review the sentence handed down to Bakhytzhan Baizhanov.

The Cassation Court Department has confirmed that the criminal case is currently under judicial review. This comes after defense attorneys filed appeals, prompting the Specialized Inter-district Criminal Court of Astana to request case materials pertaining to both Bakhytzhan Baizhanov and Kuanyshbek Bishimbayev.

Baizhanov's Sentence Under Scrutiny

Specifically, the court acts against Baizhanov are slated for re-examination. Notably, no cassation appeal has been filed by Bishimbayev or his legal representatives.

The court session is scheduled for May 14, 2026. Previously, Bakhytzhan Baizhanov, the brother of Kuanyshbek Bishimbayev, had his sentence reduced due to an amnesty. The remaining unserved portion of his sentence was set at 1 year, 4 months, and 17 days.
