Shymkent Residents Fear Flood as Dam Erodes, Threatening Homes
Residents of the Maitas district in Shymkent are facing a significant threat as a protective dam along the Badam River shows signs of severe erosion. The crumbling structure, weakened by water flow, now puts dozens of homes in immediate danger.
Footage circulating on social media clearly depicts the river's current undermining the riverbank and exposing the dam's concrete supports. Local residents express deep concern, noting that the river's channel is situated alarmingly close to their homes. They fear that the upcoming spring floods could exacerbate the situation dramatically.
Urgent Action Demanded
"If urgent measures are not taken, the entire village could be flooded during the next surge," stated concerned locals. "We have raised this issue multiple times, but the responsible authorities have ignored our pleas."
This situation highlights not only the potential for a natural disaster but also the perceived negligence of responsible agencies in carrying out timely preventive measures. The community is now demanding immediate reinforcement of the dam to ensure their safety.
