Talgar water pipeline needs extra 1.7bn tenge; first households to connect by July
Talgar’s central water pipeline in Almaty Region requires an additional 1.7 billion tenge to finish construction, with initial household connections still targeted for July—a key milestone for residents awaiting reliable drinking water.
This was reported by the Infohub.kz news agency.
Why more funding is needed
Contractors say the gap stems from phased budget disbursements, sharp increases in equipment and material costs, and changes to the original scope. The updated design now includes a dedicated filtration and water quality control laboratory.
Progress to date
Construction began in 2022. According to project representatives and the district administration, approximately 70 percent of the work has been completed. During a recent site visit by members of Parliament, officials reaffirmed plans to connect several villages to the central network in July.
Oversight and next steps
Lawmakers emphasized that any additional allocation will be considered only after verifying that previously disbursed funds were used as intended. MP Maxim Rozhin underscored the project’s social and strategic importance and noted that improving water infrastructure remains a priority under presidential oversight. He urged regional and national authorities to secure financing promptly to avoid further delays.
What residents can expect
If the schedule holds, first connections will go live in July. The decision on the extra 1.7 billion tenge will be made following the audit’s findings, with the overarching goal of delivering stable, high-quality drinking water to Talgar and surrounding settlements.
