Teens Jailed for Brutal Attack on Elderly Man in Temirtau

A court in Temirtau has delivered a verdict in the shocking case of a brutal attack on a 68-year-old pensioner, sentencing nine teenagers involved in the crime. The incident highlights a disturbing trend of youth violence in the Karaganda region.

The Heinous Act

According to court findings, the teenagers unlawfully entered the pensioner's apartment on two separate occasions in February 2025. Exploiting the elderly man's vulnerability, they subjected him to a violent assault, humiliation, and even spat on him. The perpetrators recorded their cruel actions on their mobile phones.

The assault left the victim with moderate injuries and resulted in the loss of his property. The calculated nature of the attack, involving repeated intrusions and the recording of the abuse, has drawn widespread condemnation.

Repeat Offenses

Further complicating the case, one of the convicted teenagers was found to be involved in another criminal incident. In March, this individual, along with a group, broke into another citizen's apartment, assaulted the resident, and stole property valued at 95,000 tenge.

Court's Sentencing

The guilt of the accused was established through their partial admissions, testimony from victims and witnesses, and expert analysis. While the prosecution sought specific prison terms, the defense argued for leniency.

Considering the severity of the crimes, the court imposed sentences ranging from 5 to 7 years. One defendant received a 7-year sentence, a minor received 6 years and 6 months, and two others were sentenced to 5 years and 6 months. The remaining defendants were each given 5-year prison terms.

The court acknowledged the young age of some of the defendants during the sentencing but determined that aggravating circumstances were present in the case.
