Temirtau Residents' DIY Repair Leaves 26 Homes Without Heat
In Temirtau, an unauthorized repair attempt on a hot water pipe has left 26 private homes without heating. The incident highlights ongoing issues with aging infrastructure and raises questions about the cost and feasibility of alternative heating solutions for residents.
DIY Repair Leads to Heat Outage
The disruption occurred when a resident in the private housing sector attempted to fix a break in the heating main of the hot water pipe. Without notifying the relevant utility company, "Okzhetpes-T" LLP, or consulting neighbors, the individual began repair work. This action inadvertently cut off the heat supply to 26 households in the area.
City Administration Responds
The city mayor promptly visited the site to coordinate the response from all relevant services. The affected district is already equipped with central gas supply, and all 26 homes have the potential to switch to gas heating. Officials have explained the connection procedures, documentation steps, and available state support measures to the residents.
Residents Question the Solution
However, the administration's proposed solution has met with significant pushback from many residents. The cost of converting to gas heating is substantial, leading to widespread discontent. Online discussions reveal frustration, with citizens questioning the state of the existing infrastructure, the lack of planned maintenance, and the whereabouts of investment programs supposedly included in tariffs. Many are asking why they are being forced to pay for new boilers, potentially through loans, to solve a problem caused by the failure of a centralized system, especially when heating is a vital resource.
Decision to Switch to Gas
On February 27, the city administration announced a decision to transition the affected homes to gas heating in stages, presenting it as a more reliable and sustainable alternative. Residents are currently preparing the necessary documents to obtain technical specifications from the local QAZAQGAZ AIMAQ branch. One-time financial assistance is being considered for socially vulnerable groups.
Future Plans and Resident Responsibility
City Mayor Galyim Ashimov met with residents to discuss all possible options. While restoring the heating pipeline using state funds is theoretically possible, the land is privately owned, making the process lengthy and potentially delaying the restoration of heat supply significantly. Gas infrastructure is already in place in the area, requiring only the connection to individual homes. Following discussions, it was decided that residents will be responsible for choosing their gas connection method, boiler, and contractor. The city administration has stated it will continue to monitor the situation.
