The Profound Benefits of Sending Salutations Upon Prophet Muhammad ﷺ

Sending salutations upon the Messenger of Allah, Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, is a virtuous and significant act for every Muslim. It is not merely a religious duty but also a means to attain the Prophet's intercession and draw closer to Almighty Allah.

The Importance of Sending Salutations

Islamic scholars, drawing upon Quranic verses and Hadith, emphasize that uttering salutations once when the Prophet Muhammad's ﷺ name is mentioned is obligatory, while doing so multiple times is highly recommended (mustahabb). Sending these blessings elevates our status and is a way to qualify for the Prophet's ﷺ intercession.

A Means for Du'a Acceptance

Hadith literature highlights that sending salutations is a key factor in the acceptance of supplications (Du'a). A narration from Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) states: "Supplications remain suspended between the earth and the heavens, unheard, until one sends blessings upon your Prophet ﷺ." (Tirmidhi 486). The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ himself advised: "Do not treat me as a traveler you pass by; rather, send blessings upon me at the beginning, middle, and end of your supplications!" (Tirmidhi).

Various Ways to Send Salutations

There are several established ways for Muslims to send salutations upon Prophet Muhammad ﷺ.

The Significance of Continuous Salutations

It is important to consistently send salutations upon the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, not just on specific occasions, but as a continuous practice. This serves as a means to draw nearer to the Creator, as the Quran instructs: "...Seek a means to approach Him..." (Surah Al-Ma'idah, 5:35). The salutations sent to Prophet Muhammad ﷺ bring us closer to Allah.

A Hadith narrated by Abu Darda (may Allah be pleased with him) quotes Prophet Muhammad ﷺ saying: "Whoever sends ten blessings upon me in the morning and ten in the evening will be granted my intercession on the Day of Resurrection."

May Allah the Almighty grant us all the intercession of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. Ameen!
