Two Indian Students Drown in Kazakhstan's Fedorov Reservoir

A tragic incident has occurred at the Fedorov Reservoir in the Karaganda region, where two students drowned. The event took place on the evening of May 30th, during an attempt to swim in a prohibited area.

Victims Identified

According to the Karaganda Regional Department of Emergency Situations, the deceased were young individuals born in 2004 and 2005. Rescue divers located the bodies approximately 15 meters from the shore, at a depth of five meters.

Dangerous Location

The press service of the Department of Emergency Situations highlighted that the location where the incident occurred is not designated for swimming and is considered dangerous for visitors. The reservoir bed in this area is uneven, with sudden changes in depth.

Rescuers emphasized that the dangers of a body of water cannot always be determined by its appearance. They noted that warning signs are installed in places that pose a risk to people's lives and health.

The Department of Emergency Situations urged residents and guests of the region to adhere to water safety rules, avoid swimming in unequipped areas, not leave children unattended, and refrain from swimming while intoxicated.

This incident follows another tragedy earlier this year where Indian students were involved in a severe road accident near Almaty, resulting in their deaths on January 6th while traveling from Shymkent to the city.
