US Forces Disable Iranian Tanker Steering in Gulf Standoff
U.S. military forces have reportedly disabled the steering system of an Iranian-flagged tanker in the Gulf of Oman. The incident occurred as the vessel, identified as the tanker 'Hasna', was transiting international waters and heading towards an Iranian port.
Tense Encounter in International Waters
According to a statement released by the U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) on the social media platform X, the 'Hasna' tanker was under surveillance. U.S. forces issued warnings to the vessel for allegedly violating a blockade. Despite multiple warnings, the crew of the 'Hasna' reportedly did not comply with the directives.
Naval Action and Disruption
In response to the non-compliance, U.S. forces launched an F/A-18 Super Hornet aircraft from the USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN 72). The aircraft fired multiple rounds from a 20-millimeter cannon, disabling the tanker's rudder. This action effectively prevented the 'Hasna' from continuing its course towards Iran.
Ongoing Blockade Policy
CENTCOM reiterated that the U.S. blockade remains in effect for vessels attempting to enter or exit Iranian ports. This policy was initiated on April 13th, with Washington stating that ships without ties to Iran can pass through the Strait of Hormuz freely, provided they do not pay Tehran.
This incident highlights the ongoing tensions and maritime enforcement actions in the strategic waterways of the Persian Gulf.
