Woman Sentenced to 14 Years for Killing Acquaintance and Hiding Body
A woman in Kazakhstan has been sentenced to 14 years in prison after killing an acquaintance and hiding his body under her bed for several days. The accused continued her daily life as if nothing had happened, even sleeping in the room where the deceased was located.
Details of the Crime
The case involved a 53-year-old resident of Beskol village in the Kyzylzhar district. According to court documents, the incident occurred on February 27th of this year. The woman was preparing to chop firewood when the victim, who was intoxicated, entered her home uninvited.
Despite the woman's request for him to leave, the man refused and asked to stay. Court documents state that as the woman followed him to close the door, he stumbled towards her. In an attempt to 'frighten' him, she struck him twice with the blunt end of an axe, not realizing the severity of the blows to his back. The victim subsequently lost consciousness and collapsed.
Following the incident, the woman cleaned the bloodstains from the floor and dragged the unresponsive man into a room, concealing his body under the bed.
Living with the Deceased
For several days after the killing, the convicted woman continued her routine. She went to work, interacted with neighbors and villagers, and returned home to sleep on the bed above where the body was hidden. She claimed to have intended to report the incident but could not due to a lack of phone credit.
Meanwhile, the victim's brother and mother reported him missing. Police investigations revealed that the victim was last seen with the accused. Officers arriving at her home detected a foul odor, leading them to discover the body hidden beneath the bed in the bedroom.
During the trial, the woman admitted to the killing but argued she only intended to scare the victim. The court also considered her behavior after the crime, noting her failure to seek help for the victim and her opportunity to contact the police, which she did not take.
Previous Convictions and Sentence
It was also revealed that the woman had a prior conviction for homicide and causing grievous bodily harm, recognizing a pattern of dangerous recidivism. Judge Yerlan Nursharypov of the Specialized Inter-District Criminal Court of North Kazakhstan region sentenced the woman to 14 years of imprisonment in a minimum-security correctional facility. She was also ordered to undergo compulsory treatment for alcoholism.
The verdict is not yet legally binding, and the woman intends to appeal the decision.
