Rumors surrounding a potential wedding between young chess talents Javokhir Sindarov and Bibisara Asaubaeva have been put to rest. The grandmother of the Uzbek grandmaster has shared her perspective on the relationship between her grandson and the Kazakhstani chess player.

Friendship Beyond the Board

Despite the significant achievements of both young athletes، public attention has recently shifted towards their personal lives. This discussion was fueled by Bibisara Asaubaeva's social media post congratulating Sindarov as "my champion" with a heart emoji.

Addressing the situation، the athlete's grandmother emphasized that the two have known each other since childhood.

"For now، they are friends. It's hard to say anything in advance. We have known Bibisara since she was young، we used to see each other often، played chess together. Now they are friends. We don't know what will happen in the future. If one day he says، 'I like this girl، I love her،' we will support his choice،" she stated in an interview with the zamin.uz portal.

Tournament Successes Fuel Interest

The interest in the relationship between the athletes intensified following their impressive performances at the "Candidates Tournament – 2026" held in Paphos، Cyprus.

Javokhir Sindarov achieved a historic milestone in the men's tournament. The 20-year-old Uzbek grandmaster became the winner ahead of schedule، remaining undefeated throughout the competition. This victory secured him a match against the reigning World Champion، Gukesh Dommaraju.

In the women's tournament، Bibisara Asaubaeva delivered the best result in Kazakhstan's history. The grandmaster led the competition for a significant period، ultimately securing second place، just half a point behind Indian chess player Vaishali Rameshbabu.

It was in Paphos that Asaubaeva was among the first to congratulate Sindarov on his victory، expressing in an interview that she was proud of him and that his achievement was well-deserved.
