Kairat Nurtas' Father Explains Why He Allowed Daughter-in-Law To Skip Tradition
Nurtas Aidarbekov، the father of renowned Kazakh singer Kairat Nurtas and a prominent producer himself، has shed light on his decision to permit his daughter-in-law، Zholdyz Abdikarimova، to forgo the traditional act of 'salem salu' (bowing to elders).
Aidarbekov shared his perspective during a recent interview alongside his other daughter-in-law، Aigerim Sarkenova، who was participating in a popular social media trend.
Understanding the 'Norm or Strive' Trend
The interview saw Aigerim Sarkenova engaging her father-in-law with questions related to the 'norm or strive' trend. This trend typically involves a younger family member asking an elder about acceptable behaviors within the household، with the elder responding whether the action is considered 'normal' or something to 'strive' for.
Aidarbekov stated that he considers it normal for a son to help with household chores and for a daughter-in-law to receive assistance if she is overwhelmed. However، he expressed disapproval if a daughter-in-law completely neglects cooking or sleeps late into the morning.
Regarding living arrangements، Aidarbekov acknowledged that while a couple's desire to live separately from parents is their choice، he sees no inherent issue with younger generations living with their elders.
He also commented on traditional attire، deeming it appropriate for a daughter-in-law to wear a headscarf at home but not making it a strict requirement when outdoors.
The 'Salem Salu' Tradition Explained
The most notable revelation concerned the 'salem salu' tradition. Nurtas Aidarbekov explained that when Zholdyz Abdikarimova first joined the family as a daughter-in-law، he specifically granted her permission not to perform this custom.
His reasoning stemmed from the fact that at the time of her marriage، the Aidarbekov family had only sons، and no daughters. Therefore، he viewed Zholdyz not just as a daughter-in-law، but as a daughter figure.
"Essentially، a daughter-in-law loses nothing by performing 'salem salu'؛ on the contrary، she receives blessings. So، perform the bow and receive the blessings. Elders wish her a long life and happiness. These are very valuable words،" Aidarbekov remarked، emphasizing the traditional significance of the custom.
