New Fish Processing Plant to Boost Atyrau Region's Economy and Exports

A significant development is underway in the Atyrau region as a new، modern fish processing plant prepares to launch in the Makhat district. This initiative is part of a broader strategy to bolster the region's fisheries sector، with expectations that it will invigorate the local economy and enhance export capabilities.

Boosting Production and Exports

The new facility، part of the 'A-Dana' farm، is nearing completion. Its primary objectives are ambitious: to cultivate 15 million sturgeon fry annually and produce up to 130 tons of commercial fish. This increased output is crucial for meeting the high international demand for Atyrau's fish products.

Last year، the region saw over 15.5 thousand tons of fish caught. Of this، 10 thousand tons were processed locally، with more than 3.3 thousand tons exported. Currently، Atyrau's fish reach markets in Russia، Azerbaijan، Georgia، Ukraine، and Germany.

Untapped Potential and Future Growth

While 18 fishery entities are currently operational in the region، managing 31 sites، there remains considerable untapped potential. An additional 27 sites are available and awaiting investment، signaling opportunities for further expansion.

Bekzat Sarsenghali، head of a department at the Agriculture Department، highlighted that new projects like the 'A-Dana' plant will not only expand production volumes but also broaden the scope of export destinations. Furthermore، developing commercial fish farming through such ventures can help alleviate pressure on natural water bodies.
