Almaty's New Kalkaman Metro Station Nears Completion: A First Look

Almaty residents are getting a closer look at the upcoming Kalkaman metro station, with interior finishing and surrounding infrastructure development well underway. Mayor Darhan Satibaldy recently visited the construction site to personally assess the progress.

Finishing Touches and Engineering Systems

The station's interior work is nearing completion. Installation of escalators and elevators is in progress, alongside the setup of crucial engineering systems. These include ventilation, video surveillance, train control, and fire safety systems, all vital for the station's operation.

Projected Completion and Expansion

Construction and installation activities are slated for completion by the end of the first half of 2026. Beyond the station itself, a significant 7-hectare area surrounding Kalkaman is being transformed. Plans include extensive landscaping with trees and over a thousand shrubs, the creation of pedestrian zones, improved lighting, new parking facilities, and dedicated bus stops to enhance public transport connectivity.

Connecting the City

The Kalkaman station officially connected to Almaty's existing metro network in mid-February. This milestone was marked by the successful drilling of a 1,593-meter right-hand tunnel linking the Baizhan Momyshuly and Kalkaman stations. City officials confirm that tracks and the contact rail have been laid, and all necessary engineering communications are now installed within this new tunnel.
