Atyrau family of six missing for over a month; search expands across Kazakhstan
A month-long search for six members of the Karabalin family from Jangeldin in Atyrau Region’s Kyzylkogha district has expanded nationwide, after police confirmed a missing-person report was registered 10 days ago and multiple lines of inquiry are underway.
This was reported by the Infohub.kz news agency.
What is known so far
Relatives say the family home appeared undisturbed: furniture, clothing and food in the refrigerator were left in place. The sequence began when the family’s only son, Nauryz Mukangaliyev, said he had found a job in Aktau and left, after which contact reportedly ceased.
In November, the father, Maksot Karabalin, set out to take his wife and a daughter with disabilities to a doctor. Shortly after, relatives also lost contact with another daughter and her husband. In total, six family members are unaccounted for.
Family members noted that pensions for November and December were withdrawn and livestock from the household was sold via WhatsApp under Nauryz Mukangaliyev’s name, yet belongings remained at the residence.
Police actions and official comments
First Deputy Chief of the Atyrau Regional Police Department, Kuttybay Sadykov, said the complaint was formally registered 10 days ago. Searches are now running across Kazakhstan, with hospitals and private organizations being checked and guidance issued to law enforcement units countrywide.
Police also reported that devices linked to the missing family had been switched on and off within Kazakhstan’s territory, indicating potential local activity. Authorities have urged the public to follow official updates and avoid spreading speculation.
Online rumors under review
On social media, a self-described hacker claimed SIM cards associated with Nauryz Mukangaliyev were intermittently used and showed geolocation data from Uzbekistan, including multiple daily logins to WhatsApp. There is, however, no official record of any legal border crossing, and these claims remain unverified.
Similarly, a rumor that a bank card was used in Bali has not been confirmed by authorities. Police emphasized that unverified information can hamper the investigation.
Family concerns and call for focus
Relative Asila Mukangalieva questioned how “six people could suddenly leave with all property left behind,” adding that a delayed filing of the initial complaint by in-laws heightened concerns. The family asks that the search continue until all six are found safe.
Journalist Gulmira Abyqai clarified that the case involves six missing people, not four, to dispel earlier confusion in public reports.
