The pre-trial investigation into Olesya Keksell, former head of the special prosecutors' service, is still underway, according to Kazakhstan's General Prosecutor's Office. Keksell was detained on suspicion of torture on July 4, 2025.

The office stated that investigative actions are currently focused on collecting and securing additional evidence. Details of the criminal case are being withheld in accordance with Article 201 of the Criminal Procedure Code.

Keksell's Previous Roles

Before her current investigation, Olesya Keksell held significant positions within Kazakhstan's anti-corruption bodies. She served as the Deputy Head of the Investigation Department at the National Anti-Corruption Bureau from 2017 to 2018.

Following this, she led the special prosecutors' service from January 2018 until May 2019. The investigation into her alleged involvement in torture has been ongoing for over seven months, with no specific completion date announced by the General Prosecutor's Office.
