First Deputy Governor Admits Guilt in Fraud and Bribery Case
A significant legal proceeding has concluded with the first deputy governor of the East Kazakhstan region, Zhaksylyk Omar, admitting his full guilt in court. The case involves serious allegations of fraud and bribery.
Charges Detailed
Omar faced charges under two articles: large-scale fraud and accepting bribes as a public official. In the first instance, while serving as the former mayor of Ust-Kamenogorsk, Omar allegedly requested a Toyota Camry 75 as a form of material assistance from a city resident. This vehicle, valued at 13 million tenge, was later registered to a third party.
The second charge pertains to Omar demanding 20 million tenge from an employee of the city administration for general patronage. Following the employee's report to the authorities, Omar was apprehended while receiving 6 million tenge in cash. An additional 5.6 million tenge was discovered at his home and workplace during the arrest.
Court Proceedings and Defense
During the court session, Omar's defense team requested a sentence that did not involve imprisonment, citing that his relatives had already gathered the necessary funds to cover the fines. It was also noted that the accused had 112 million tenge in his bank accounts.
The next court session for this criminal case is scheduled for March 26.
