Human Remains Unearthed at New Hospital Construction Site in Shemonaikha

Construction of a new infectious disease hospital in Shemonaikha, Kazakhstan, has been unexpectedly halted following the discovery of human skeletal remains at the site. The find has raised concerns among local residents about the history of the land.

Local Concerns and Discoveries

Residents reported that the skeletal remains appear scattered across the area, with some describing the scene as disturbing. One local resident expressed their unease, stating, "There are bones everywhere. It feels like walking over a cemetery. Jawbones, skulls, arm and leg bones, even fingers were found. It's very frightening. The deceased should not be disturbed."

Speculation among the community suggests that the site may have been a burial ground for individuals who died from plague in the past century. This has led to fears among residents about the potential spread of diseases.

Official Response and Reburial Plans

Authorities have urged the public not to panic, confirming that the land previously housed an infectious disease hospital where people were indeed buried. However, they noted that the area was later actively developed and used for construction.

Officials have pledged to rebury the discovered remains while adhering to all safety protocols. Medical professionals have also indicated that no significant epidemics occurred at this specific location historically.

Laura Zhakypova, press secretary for the East Kazakhstan Regional Akimat, stated, "According to the police findings, the discovered remains need to be reburied. They do not hold historical value. The Shemonaikha Akimat has decided to bury them in the existing cemetery in accordance with legal requirements."

The discovery has led to a temporary pause in construction as the remains are processed and prepared for reburial, ensuring proper respect and safety measures are implemented.
