Kazakh Member of Parliament Daulet Mukayev has issued a statement addressing a recent controversy sparked by a video of him congratulating his wife on her birthday. The video, which circulated online, showed Mukayev presenting his wife with a document that some social media users claimed resembled official parliamentary correspondence.

The online debate intensified as users pointed out the similarity between the document in the video and official parliamentary stationery. Critics accused the MP of misusing parliamentary attributes for personal purposes. The incident quickly gained traction on social media platforms, with discussions peaking around May 9th and 10th.

MP's Defense: A Personal Touch

Responding to questions about the ethical implications of his actions, MP Mukayev clarified that the document was not an official parliamentary greeting. He explained that the blue folder contained his personal documents and that he had designed its appearance and text himself, having it printed for approximately 5,000 tenge. "This was my personal congratulation to my wife," Mukayev stated.

No Breach of Regulations, Says MP

Mukayev asserted that his actions did not violate parliamentary regulations. While the misuse of official letterheads is prohibited, he emphasized that the item in question was merely a folder. Furthermore, he noted that the congratulatory gesture occurred outside of working hours and during a private event, not in an official capacity.

Speculation and Precedent

The MP did not rule out the possibility that the controversy might have been orchestrated, suggesting it could be a deliberate campaign. This incident follows a previous controversy involving another MP, Ardak Nazarov, whose on-stage birthday greeting to his mother during a parliamentary session also drew public attention.
