Kazakh Village Thrives on Collective Business, Generating Billions
In a departure from Kazakhstan's typical top-down leadership model for rural development, the village of Besaryk in the Kyzylorda region has forged a unique path to prosperity. For two decades, 450 families have collaboratively built a thriving agricultural enterprise, generating nearly a billion tenge annually without a single owner.
A Collective Farming Success Story
The residents of Besaryk collectively manage a herd of 10,000 head of cattle and cultivate one thousand hectares of rice paddies. This operation yields approximately 580 million tenge from the sale of raw rice. When processed, this figure climbs to an impressive 960 million tenge, meaning each of the 450 families earns close to one billion tenge per year.
Building a Business Together
Unlike the more common "Rodina" village model, where a single leader spearheads development, Besaryk's success is the result of 20 years of sustained collective effort and cooperation among its residents.
Incubator and Cooperative Initiatives
In 2024, a free business incubator was launched for local entrepreneurs as part of the "Aul Amanaty" state program. This project, with an investment of 642 million tenge (465 million tenge from "Abay-Daulet" LLP), now houses workshops producing semi-finished goods, french fries, confectionery, bakery items, plastic containers, soap, and wooden and textile products. These new ventures have created 25 jobs.
One incubator resident, Gulzira Rysym, secured a preferential loan of 6 million tenge to establish a work glove production facility. She notes strong demand for her products, which are priced below market rates.
Furthermore, the "Syr Qusy" agricultural production cooperative was established in the village in 2024, boasting an annual production capacity of 100 tons of poultry meat. These products are already being supplied to trade outlets across the region.
Community and Social Responsibility
Besaryk is home to 2,400 residents and boasts comprehensive social infrastructure. This includes a 360-seat school, a 120-seat kindergarten, a cultural center with 10 clubs, an outpatient clinic with a day hospital, 14 doctors, and an ambulance. In 2024, the average score for graduating students was 80%, with three students earning the "Altyn Belgi" (Golden Badge) award.
Reflecting its success and community spirit, Besaryk village was named the winner of the "Exemplary Settlement" competition for 2024.
