Kazakhmys Unveils Ambitious Industrial Safety Strategy Through 2028

Kazakhmys Corporation has officially approved a comprehensive industrial safety transformation strategy set to run from 2026 to 2028. This forward-thinking plan is designed with a clear mission: to drastically reduce workplace injuries, enhance risk control measures, and ultimately achieve zero fatalities across all operations.

The announcement follows a dedicated strategic session focused on industrial safety and labor protection within the Kazakhmys group of companies. The meeting was presided over by Ruslan Uskenali, Chairman of the Management Board of Kazakhmys Corporation LLC.

Safety as the Top Priority

In his opening remarks, Uskenali emphasized that achieving production targets is intrinsically linked to the strict adherence to safety protocols. "Industrial safety is our number one priority," he stated. "Production plans will only be met when safety requirements are unequivocally followed. We are strengthening managerial discipline and establishing a unified management framework. There will be no compromises when it comes to the life and health of our employees."

Strategic Development and Expert Input

The strategic session saw participation from board members, heads of production units, technical specialists, and consultants from the international company "JMJ Associates." The labor protection block, led by Zhanbek Yesmakhanov, was instrumental in developing the strategy. The foundation for this plan was built upon a comprehensive assessment of the existing work system, including internal audits and independent international research.

Key directions identified from the analysis focus on reinforcing managerial discipline and increasing accountability at all organizational levels. The approved strategy, effective from 2026 to 2028, aims to foster a proactive approach to managing production risks and cultivate a robust safety culture throughout the company.

Key Initiatives and Goals

Central to the strategy is the principle of "zero harm," which involves refining the risk management system and promoting leadership in safety practices. To ensure accountability, a central committee for industrial safety and labor protection will be established to monitor the implementation of decisions. Regular committee meetings are planned quarterly, with monthly meetings to be held at local sites.

The year 2026 has been declared the "Year of Safety." Significant emphasis will be placed on developing management systems, enhancing analytics, and implementing predictive indicators. Furthermore, the strategy includes the establishment of unified standards for risk control, strengthening the role of management, integrating safety requirements into core business processes, and upgrading equipment.

The overarching goal is to shift from merely responding to incidents to proactively preventing them, thereby reducing injuries and eliminating fatalities.
