Since the beginning of 2026, a growing number of citizens in Kazakhstan have faced significant labor rights violations, with hundreds left without their earned wages. This trend highlights an increasing problem within the country's enterprises that demands urgent attention.

Widespread Wage Arrears Uncovered

As of March 1st, state labor inspectors conducted thorough investigations across 102 enterprises nationwide. Their findings revealed substantial wage arrears exceeding 284 million tenge, owed to 408 workers. In addition to these wage issues, over a thousand other labor rights violations were recorded across various companies, indicating a systemic rather than isolated problem.

Enforcement and Penalties for Employers

In response to the identified arrears and violations, the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection has implemented stringent measures. A total of 707 mandatory instructions were issued to non-compliant businesses, and fines amounting to over 89 million tenge were imposed. Strict deadlines and payment schedules were established for clearing the wage debts. These actions have successfully protected the rights of 354 workers, who have collectively received 253 million tenge, covering the majority of the outstanding amounts.

Ongoing Oversight of Labor Legislation

The Ministry of Labor and Social Protection continues its commitment to monitoring the adherence to labor rights. Since the start of the year, state inspectors have carried out 1125 inspections, identifying 1228 violations. These include 1055 breaches related to general labor practices, 161 concerning safety and occupational health, and 12 related to employment issues. Through these interventions, the rights of 11,354 workers have been safeguarded.

Addressing Wage Debt Remains a Priority

The issue of delayed wages remains a critical concern in Kazakhstan. Without consistent state oversight, employers may continue to infringe upon workers' rights. The Ministry of Labor and Social Protection emphasizes the importance of upholding labor legislation and actively addressing identified violations to ensure fair treatment for all employees.
