Kazakhstan Mandates National History and Language for Foreign Universities
A significant new requirement is set to be implemented for foreign universities and their branches operating within Kazakhstan. These institutions will now be obligated to offer courses in "History of Kazakhstan" and "Kazakh Language" to their students.
This initiative was announced by Member of Parliament Nartai Sarsengaliyev via his social media page. The proposal has garnered support from the Committee on Socio-Cultural Development of the Parliament's Majilis.
Ensuring National Identity and Language Proficiency
Under the new regulation, foreign higher education institutions and their branches must ensure they provide educational services that meet or exceed the quality of state educational standards. A key component of this is the mandatory inclusion of "History of Kazakhstan" and "Kazakh Language" courses.
This legislative move aims to strengthen national identity and promote the Kazakh language among students pursuing education at international institutions within the country.
The draft law is expected to be presented for its second reading in the Majilis in the near future.
