A top official at a correctional facility in the North Kazakhstan region has been apprehended on suspicion of accepting bribes, underscoring the nation's continued fight against corruption.

Colonel Rustem Rakhmetov, the head of Institution No. 52, was taken into custody and is now under investigation. He had been leading the penal colony, located in the village of Olsyanka in the Kyzylzhar district, for over a year.
