Kazakhstan Weather Alert: May Brings Heatwaves and Frost

Kazakhstan is bracing for a month of volatile weather as May is set to bring a mix of extreme temperatures, from summer-like heat to unseasonable frosts, according to the national weather service, Kazhydromet.

Unpredictable Start to May

The beginning of May, specifically from the 1st to the 10th, is expected to be highly unsettled. Residents can anticipate rain, with some areas experiencing heavy downpours, thunderstorms, hail, and strong winds. Forecasters have also warned of potential ground frost in the northern, eastern, and western regions during nighttime hours.

Temperature Extremes on the Horizon

The latter half of May promises a significant shift, particularly in the western, southern, southeastern, and central parts of the country. Daytime temperatures could soar, reaching highs of +33°C to +41°C. In the southernmost regions, temperatures might even climb as high as +44°C.

However, even during these warmer periods, cooler nights are expected, with temperatures dropping to between +3°C and +10°C, and daytime averages ranging from +18°C to +25°C.

Northern and Eastern Regions Face Fluctuations

Meanwhile, the northern and eastern regions will continue to experience considerable temperature variations. Nighttime temperatures are predicted to range from +2°C to +9°C, with ground frost possible in some locations, reaching up to +18°C. Daytime temperatures in these areas are expected to be between +16°C and +33°C.
