Kazakhstan's 2000 Tenge Banknotes: Deadline Approaching for Exchange

Kazakhstan is phasing out older 2000 tenge banknotes, prompting an urgent call from the National Bank for citizens to exchange them. Starting June 24, these older bills will no longer be accepted as a means of payment for goods and services.

The banknotes in question are the 2012 series, featuring the "Qazaq Eli" monument on one side and a stylized depiction of Kazakhstan's map, the Irtysh River, a yurt, and a fragment of the national flag on the other.

Deadline for Exchange

The window for using these 2012-issue 2000 tenge notes as legal tender is rapidly closing. After June 24, they will be withdrawn from circulation, meaning they can no longer be used for everyday transactions.

Where and How to Exchange

Fortunately, citizens have a grace period of three years to exchange these older banknotes for newer ones. This can be done at any second-tier bank or through Kazpost branches. For those who miss this three-year window, the National Bank's branches will offer unlimited exchange of these banknotes.

"You can exchange old banknotes for new ones through second-tier banks and Kazpost within three years. At the branches of the National Bank, this exchange is unlimited. Check the money you have and make sure to exchange the banknotes in time!" advised Assel Aktleu, a chief specialist-analyst at the National Bank of Kazakhstan's Cash Circulation Department.
