Kostanay Businesses Fined Nearly 250,000 Tenge for Price Gouging
Authorities in Kostanay have imposed significant fines on local businesses for price violations concerning socially important food products. In total, entrepreneurs were fined approximately 248,600 tenge as a result of intensified price monitoring.
Price Control Measures Intensified
The Department for Trade and Consumer Rights Protection conducted checks last week, dispatching special teams to retail outlets operated by 'ORT' LLP and 'Otau Sauda' LLP. During these inspections, specialists engaged with business owners, conducting explanatory work. The oversight covered 17 wholesale and 24 retail trade entities.
Ensuring Fair Trade Practices
Businesses were reminded of their legal obligations, particularly concerning the maximum retail markup of 15% for socially important food items. Emphasis was placed on maintaining transparency in trade and providing consumers with accurate information about products and their prices. The goal is to prevent unjustified price increases and ensure fair market practices.
Price Reductions Observed
Following the inspections, a noticeable decrease in the prices of several products was recorded. Specifically, the cost of sugar, cheese, ayran, chicken meat, and minced meat dropped by 2.2% to 19%. Additionally, prices for potatoes, tomatoes, and apples saw reductions ranging from 19% to 39%.
The department has stated that these monitoring efforts will continue. The primary objective remains not only to identify violations but also to actively prevent unjustified price hikes, especially on goods essential for the general population.
