Mango Founder's Son Arrested in Father's Death Investigation
The son of Isak Andic, the visionary founder of the globally recognized fashion brand Mango, has been arrested on suspicion of his father's murder. Jonathan Andic, 45, who holds the position of vice-president within the company, was taken into custody by Catalan police in Barcelona.
Investigation Reopened After Initial Accident Ruling
Isak Andic, the Turkish-born entrepreneur who established Mango in Catalonia in 1984, passed away at the age of 71 on December 14, 2024. At the time, his death was attributed to a fall from a height of approximately 100 meters while hiking in the Montserrat mountains. His son, Jonathan Andic, was reportedly the sole witness to the incident.
Initially, the event was classified as a tragic accident, and the case was expected to be closed early in 2025. However, inconsistencies emerged in Jonathan Andic's statements in October 2025, prompting investigators to reopen the case. Authorities seized Jonathan's mobile phone and have been meticulously examining other evidence.
Andic Denies Involvement, Family Expresses Support
Despite the ongoing investigation and arrest, Jonathan Andic has consistently maintained his innocence, asserting that his father's death was a devastating accident. The Andic family has also publicly stated their belief in their son's innocence and have pledged their full cooperation with the investigation.
Mango: A Global Fashion Powerhouse
Founded by Isak Andic, Mango has grown into a major international fashion retailer with approximately 2,900 stores worldwide. The company achieved record sales exceeding 3.3 billion euros in the 2024 fiscal year. Isak Andic was also recognized as one of Spain's wealthiest individuals, according to Forbes.
This development marks a significant turn in the investigation, shifting from a presumed accident to a potential homicide case involving the heir to a fashion empire.
