Mother of Suspect in Atyrau Tragedy Explains Hair Shaving Incident

A tragic incident in the Jangeldin village of Atyrau region has taken a new turn as the mother of the suspect, Sultan Sarsemaliev, has come forward with details that differ from the official police narrative. She shed light on the circumstances surrounding her daughter-in-law, Akbayan Mukangaliyeva, having her hair shaved.

Reason for Shaving Hair

When questioned by journalist Ruslan Utepbai about why Akbayan's hair was shaved, the suspect's mother explained that her daughter-in-law had developed a severe rash and sores on her scalp. "She got sores all over her body. It became infested with lice. So, we had no choice but to shave her head. I gave permission myself," she stated.

The mother elaborated, recounting her conversation with her son: "Sultan, shave her hair! She scratched her head all night, causing sores. Her whole scalp was covered in scabs, making it impossible to see. It could spread to the children. We'd be disgraced." She added that Sultan was hesitant because he loved his wife dearly, but Akbayan herself did not object and even seemed relieved after the procedure. "I washed her head until it was completely clean. The sores appeared after a blood transfusion, as a reaction. The police misunderstood the situation," the mother explained.

She believes law enforcement misinterpreted the event, thinking the hair was shaved due to domestic abuse. "They thought, 'Why did you shave her hair? Is that how it's done?' They assumed she had her hair cut because she was beaten by her husband. Their relationship was good; there were no conflicts," she concluded.
