Mysterious Deaths of Scientists Involved in Lenin's Preservation Project

Following the death of Vladimir Lenin in 1924, a decision was made to preserve his body and construct a mausoleum. However, the subsequent mysterious deaths of some specialists involved in this monumental project have remained an enigma. Archival documents mention at least three high-ranking individuals whose lives ended under questionable circumstances after working with Lenin's remains.

Leonid Krasin: A Trusted Ally and 'Magician'

Leonid Krasin, an engineer, diplomat, and close associate of Lenin, believed in science's future potential to revive people. He supported the idea of embalming Lenin's body and oversaw the work of Professors Rozanov and Weisbrod. Tragically, Krasin died in London two years after Lenin's passing. The official cause was a heart attack. Notably, his body was cremated in London and never returned to his homeland.

Vladimir Vorobyev: A Scientist with a Controversial Fate

Professor Vladimir Vorobyev, a Kharkiv-based anatomist, was a key figure in the project to preserve Lenin's body. His methods also attracted biochemist Boris Zbarsky to the task. Despite controversial periods in his biography, working with Lenin's body helped restore Vorobyev's reputation. However, he died in 1937 during kidney surgery at a Kremlin hospital. The official reason was the body's intolerance to anesthesia. Yet, historians view this death with suspicion, given the political purges occurring in the Soviet Union at that time.

Aaron Zalkind: The Psychologist's Enigmatic Demise

While psychologist Aaron Zalkind may not be widely known, he also participated in the post-mortem studies of Lenin. Some accounts suggest he examined Lenin's brain and identified signs of syphilis, a conclusion that reportedly caused discontent among some colleagues. Letters from Dr. Zernov hint that Zalkind might have faced repercussions for this finding. During a scientific congress in Moscow, it was discovered that he was not in the city. Soon after, the psychologist's body was found. Although the official cause of death was stated as a heart attack, the secrecy surrounding the circumstances raises many questions.

The Kremlin's Secret

The fates of Krasin, Vorobyev, and Zalkind are just a fraction of the mysterious events linked to Lenin's body. The lives of these individuals intertwined science, politics, and inexplicable tragedies. Historians continue to grapple with whether these events were mere coincidences or the consequences of the political climate and secret projects of that era. The Kremlin archives and the history of the mausoleum remain unsolved mysteries for many researchers.
