New Indoor Football Arena to Boost Winter Sports in Burabay

A state-of-the-art indoor sports arena designed for winter football season is nearing completion in Shchuchinsk, located in the Burabay district of the Akmola region. The facility is poised to become a significant hub for sports and cultural activities for both local residents and visitors.

Key Features of the New Sports Complex

With approximately 50-60% of construction complete, the new complex will feature a 23x35 meter football pitch. Beyond football, the versatile space will also accommodate basketball and volleyball. The facility is designed with player comfort in mind, including changing rooms, showers, and a spectator stand with a capacity for 50 people.

Denis Simonov, Director of the General Contractor 'Atameken Invest Group' LLP, highlighted the project's private funding. "This is our contribution to the city. We are carrying out all construction work solely at the expense of private business, in cooperation with the Akimat. Such an indoor football arena has never existed in Shchuchinsk before. The facility will remain on the developer's balance sheet, and sports clubs will be able to train completely free of charge," Simonov stated.

Year-Round Sports Facility

The indoor arena is designed for year-round operation, with a heating system ensuring play is possible even during the coldest winter months. This development is expected to significantly resolve training challenges for sports teams in Shchuchinsk, who previously had to rely on school and university sports halls.

"Currently, sports teams in Shchuchinsk train in school and university facilities. This new sports facility will solve this problem. It will operate year-round and be heated. Both adults and children will be able to train here," added Simonov.

The construction company aims to commission the facility by September 1, 2026. The total estimated cost of the project is 250 million tenge.

Cultural Visit and Regional Potential

In addition to inspecting the sports facility, Akim of Akmola region Marat Akhmetzhanov also reviewed the condition of the Shchuchinsk City House of Culture. During his visit to the recently rebuilt cultural center, the regional head met with local ensembles, including the 'Garmoniya' choir from the village of Katarkol, which is preparing to celebrate its 25th anniversary next year.

Natalia Kazakova, a choir member, expressed her delight: "The mood is wonderful. The renovation work at the House of Culture has been carried out very well. We were amazed when we first came here."

The Akim presented the choir with a professional bayan (accordion) featuring a special engraving from himself. The musicians tested the new instrument and performed several songs from their repertoire.

"This is a long-awaited bayan for us. I had my own, but it wore out over 30 years and became irreparable. Thank you for such care," said Mikhail Kolomiets, the choir's bayanist.

Discussing the tourism potential of the Burabay district, Akim Marat Akhmetzhanov remarked, "Burabay is the pearl of Kazakhstan. More than half a million tourists visit it annually. Of course, we must leave a positive impression on them. Additionally, over 50,000 people live in Shchuchinsk. It is necessary to create a comfortable environment for them as well. Significant work has been done. The new facilities will become a center for cultural and sports recreation for the residents of Shchuchinsk, and an attractive place for guests of the region."
