Pavlodar Bridge Catches Fire for Third Time, Raising Safety Concerns

A construction site for a new bridge spanning the Irtysh River in Pavlodar has once again become the scene of a significant fire. This marks the third incident at the vital infrastructure project in just a few months, raising questions about safety protocols.

Firefighters Battle Blaze at Height

Emergency services were dispatched immediately after the fire was reported. Upon arrival, firefighters discovered that heating equipment and wooden formwork on one of the bridge's supports were ablaze. The fire, located approximately 30 meters above ground level, presented considerable challenges for the responding crews.

Extent of the Damage

Despite the difficult conditions, firefighters managed to contain and extinguish the flames. The fire covered an area of approximately 160 square meters. Fortunately, the Ministry of Emergency Situations confirmed that the fire did not spread to the main structural components of the bridge. Investigations into the exact cause of the fire are currently underway.

Pattern of Incidents

This latest incident follows two previous fires that occurred at the same location in late January and early February. The recurring nature of these fires at the Pavlodar bridge construction site is a cause for concern.

A Unique Engineering Project

The bridge itself is notable as it is described as the first extradosed bridge in Kazakhstan. This complex design integrates elements from various bridge types.
