Samruk-Kazyna Head Nurlan Zhakupov Explains His 800 Million Tenge Income
Nurlan Zhakupov, the head of the Samruk-Kazyna National Welfare Fund, has addressed public inquiries regarding his reported income of nearly 800 million tenge. Zhakupov explained that the majority of his earnings were accumulated during his extensive career in the private sector, not from state service.
Extensive Private Sector Experience
With a total of 27 years in his professional life, Zhakupov highlighted that over 16 of those years were spent working outside of government roles. He detailed his experience working for major international banks and managing his own private businesses, stating, "This is money I accumulated while working in the private sector."
Career Path Beyond Public Service
Zhakupov emphasized that he has never held a position in direct state civil service. His career has consistently been linked to private business ventures, international financial institutions, and the quasi-public sector. He noted his past roles at prominent global financial institutions such as Credit Suisse, Royal Bank of Scotland, and UBS, as well as the Rothschild bank.
Furthermore, Zhakupov mentioned his involvement with private equity funds, which focus on investing in various projects and economic sectors. He clarified that his income stemmed from both his roles as an employee and through his entrepreneurial activities.
