Shymkent Journalist Refuses Bribe Attempt, Exposes Provocation
A recent video circulating on social media has drawn significant attention, revealing an alleged attempt to bribe Shymkent-based journalist Aray Esenbek and provoke her into a compromising situation. The footage clearly shows individuals attempting to set up a hidden camera and offering a substantial sum of money to the journalist.
Bribe Offer Rejected
The video depicts individuals identified as Zhanna Baiseytova and Meirbek Toleubayev presenting a bag of cash to Esenbek. However, the journalist immediately refused the offer, stating clearly, "Put it back in your bag, I'm not taking it."
Provocation Uncovered
During the exchange, Meirbek Toleubayev is heard mentioning to others that "two cameras were set up" and that the journalist did not accept the money. This suggests a deliberate attempt to entrap Esenbek.
It is worth noting that on April 24, Aray Esenbek was sentenced to 5 years of imprisonment by court decision.
Journalist's Career Background
Aray Esenbek has a notable career in journalism, having worked for various media outlets including the 'Khabar' agency, 'Ontustik' TV channel (formerly 'Kazakhstan-Shymkent'), '31 Kanal', and the 'Azattyq Ruhy' publication. She also served as the press secretary for the Shymkent City Mayor in 2020 and later headed the city's Information and Communications Center. One of her recent roles was as an executive secretary for the Al-Farabi district branch of the 'Amanat' party in Shymkent.
This incident highlights the challenges faced by journalists in their pursuit of truth and the potential risks involved in their profession.
