Taxi Driver Fined 500,000 Tenge for Causing Injury to Passenger

A taxi passenger in Aktobe has been awarded 500,000 tenge in compensation after suffering serious injuries in a road accident. The incident occurred when a Yandex.Taxi driver, identified as a 27-year-old man, failed to yield at an unregulated intersection, resulting in a collision.

Passenger Suffers Broken Ribs

The injured woman was transported to the hospital from the accident scene. Medical examinations revealed that she had sustained fractures to three of her ribs. The severity of her injuries left her unable to move, breathe comfortably, or eat for an extended period.

Driver Faces Legal Consequences

The taxi driver was subsequently charged under Article 345 of the Criminal Code of Kazakhstan, which pertains to violations of traffic or vehicle operation rules that result in severe or moderately severe bodily harm or death. The driver admitted to violating traffic regulations.

Driver's Plea and Victim's Demands

During the court proceedings, the driver cited his role as the sole provider for his family, including a wife with epilepsy, and requested leniency. He stated that he had already covered the victim's medical expenses and medication costs. However, the injured passenger highlighted the significant impact on her life, including being unable to work for two months and accumulating debt to cover her loan payments. She sought 500,000 tenge for moral damages.

Court Ruling

The court ruled that the taxi driver must complete 80 hours of community service and will have his driver's license suspended for one year. Additionally, he was ordered to pay the victim 500,000 tenge as compensation for moral damages.

This incident underscores the importance of adhering to traffic laws and the potential consequences for drivers who endanger passengers. The court's decision aims to provide restitution for the victim's suffering and deter future negligence.
