Turkey's Spy Chief Warns of Decades-Long "Brother Wars" in Middle East
The head of Turkey's National Intelligence Organization (MIT), İbrahim Kalın, has issued a stark warning about the escalating tensions in the Middle East, suggesting that current conflicts could devolve into prolonged "brother wars" that could last for decades.
Escalating Regional Conflicts
Kalın expressed deep concern that the conflict initiated by the United States and Israel against Iran could have far-reaching consequences. He fears the repercussions might not be limited to Iran's nuclear capabilities but could ignite a bloody, decades-long cycle of revenge among the region's core ethnic groups: Turks, Kurds, Arabs, and Persians.
Turkey's Stance on Conflict
Emphasizing Turkey's commitment to peace, Kalın stated that his country has never fueled conflict and has no intention of doing so. He noted that the current wave of interconnected conflicts, initially focused on Iran, has now spread throughout the Persian Gulf region.
Criticism of Israeli Actions
Kalın specifically pointed to Israel as a primary instigator of the current crisis, alleging that it has consistently sabotaged efforts towards negotiation, dialogue, and establishing communication channels. He asserted that attacks on Iran, as well as those in the Persian Gulf region, are counterproductive and do not serve any strategic goals.
Commitment to Peace and Reconstruction
"We will continue to make every effort, day and night, without interruption, to stop this war," Kalın declared. He added that following the cessation of hostilities, significant work would be required to mitigate the damage inflicted upon the region as swiftly as possible.
Ongoing Hostilities
The military operations by the U.S. and Israel against Iran have been ongoing for approximately a month, with both sides exchanging strikes. Recent reports indicate that Tehran does not plan to halt its military actions and is prepared to intensify its attacks despite recent statements from Washington.
